MEET THE TEAM: Intern Sara – Captivated by the Underwater World
The Raya Divers team consists of passionate ocean lovers, and this time we’re introducing our Spring 2026 intern, Sara. A Sports and Leisure Management student, Sara arrived in Phuket for her internship and soon found herself busy at the office, on the boat deck, and beneath the surface.
Who are you and what is your role at Raya Divers?
I’m Sara, and I’ve been working as an intern during the Spring 2026 season. I am studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Leisure Management. My internship at Raya has been incredibly diverse: I’ve worked as a snorkel guide, participated in the center's daily routines, and handled office tasks.
How did you end up here and which locations have you worked in?
I first learned about Raya through a school project. I heard that students from my university had interned here before, which sparked my interest in applying. My main base was Phuket, but I also had the chance to visit Khao Lak and see how things operate there.
When and how did diving become part of your life?
I tried diving for the first time here in Thailand back in 2016. After that, I took a ten-year break, but during this internship, the spark was reignited—stronger than ever! I completed my Open Water and Advanced courses during my placement, and now I want to continue my training even further. I’ve completely fallen in love with diving.
What is your favorite spot or trip where you’d take a friend first?
I would definitely take a friend to Phi Phi to see the reef sharks. It’s an experience everyone should have, whether snorkeling or diving!
What is your favorite Thai food and where is the best place to eat it?
Definitely Pad Kra Pao. You can find the best servings at the "police box" in Chalong (if you know, you know!).
What is the best part of your job?
The fascinating underwater world and, of course, our happy customers.
What kind of person truly thrives in this job?
You’ll succeed in this role if you are cheerful, open, social, and not afraid of hard work. The days can be long and the work is physical. We also work according to the Thai way—six days a week. It’s important that the sea and water feel like natural elements to you, and having a sales-oriented mindset is definitely a plus.
What made you stay and enjoy the season?
Thailand is an amazing place and our team is absolutely fantastic! Diving is, of course, a huge draw as well.
What has been the funniest moment of this past winter?
It’s hard to name just one single moment because the entire internship has been one of the most fun experiences of my life.
What would you say to someone considering applying to work at Raya?
I’d say: definitely apply! A three-month internship might seem like a long time beforehand, but it flashes by in the blink of an eye. I’m already hoping I can come back for an even longer period next season. I give this a huge and warm recommendation to anyone interested!
